The 2014-2015 Marlborough College concert series bringing ‘World Class Musicians to Marlborough’ comes to and end on Sunday (February 1) with a concert by the Southbank Sinfonia.
The first half of the concert will feature Mozart’s overture to The Magic Flute and a selection of operatic arias with the international soprano Ilona Dominich.
The concert will finish with a performance of Beethoven’s great Fifth Symphony – which opens with a theme entirely appropriate to the week of the fiftieth anniversary of Winston Churchill’s death. The opening bars took on a special meaning during the Second World War with its rhythm paralleling the Morse code letter V – as “V for Victory”.
