Feeling positive and upbeat about the potential for points from this match against Hereford, having only narrowly lost out on a draw last time they met, Marlborough were determined to play with vigour.
Unfortunately the game didn’t get off to the best of starts with early goals from Hereford – made quick on the break, along with a deadly strike from a short corner.
However Marlborough didn’t let their heads go down and continued to push for chances, with a number of good crosses in, but failed to covert them into goals.
Half time saw us down 3-0, but with much of the play in our own 25.
Marlborough rallied and began the second half much the better team. Some lovely plays through the middle from Rachel Cox, Helen Way and Phoebe Clarke brought chances which eventually paid off with Kat Fuller being in the right place at the right time to covert a cross.
Marlborough continued to put Hereford under pressure and played some of their best hockey this season which soon produced another goal from a great cross from Rachel Cox converted by Vikki Hill.
Unfortunately despite the team’s efforts it wasn’t to be their day as dangerous turnovers from Hereford quickly took the score to 4-2. And in the dying minutes a final Hereford goal made it 5-2. The team had a lot of positives to take from the game but sadly no points.
The Marlborough News Online Player of the Match was Helen Way for great attack and defence work in the middle.
