Transition Marlborough has launched a campaign to inform the local community and assess the level of popular support for bringing the First Great Western rail line back to the town.
The project is aimed at extending the existing Paddington to Bedwyn service on to Marlborough by restoring the disused railway line to the south of the town and creating a new station.
A leaflet explaining the scheme has been distributed to local businesses and may be downloaded by going to www.transitionmarlborough.org and clicking on the link to ‘I support the Marlborough Railway Link’.
This page also allows people to register as supporters of the scheme.
Transition Marlborough spokesman Peter Ridal told Marlborough News Online: “We think that this an excellent scheme that would greatly enhance our town as well as relieving the existing traffic problems in Bedwyn.
“But we need popular support to show decision makers that the community is firmly in favour. So we appeal to everyone to register their support by going to www.transitionmarlborough.org, clicking on the ‘I support the Marlborough Railway Link’ and registering their support.”
