Police arrested two men shortly after the ATM at Budgens BP Petrol Station in Hertford Road Marlborough was broken into and cash stolen last night.
The two men, aged 23 and 31 from Bristol were arrested on suspicion of burglary and are currently being held in custody at Melksham for further questioning.
Officers were made aware of an incident at Budgens shortly after midnight.
A dog handler who was in the area spotted a vehicle driving off along the A346 towards Burbage. The vehicle was stopped and searched and a quantity of cash was located.
Insp Chris Martin said: “This was excellent work by the dog handler who was patrolling in the area at the time of the alarm activation and was able to swiftly locate the suspect vehicle and make two arrests.
“Understandably, incidents of this nature are concerning for the local residents, but please be reassured that despite current travel restrictions officers are patrolling across both rural and urban areas. Officers are continuing with their enquiries today and would urge anyone who saw or heard any suspicious activity in the area to get in touch.”
