As you know, parking in Marlborough is at a premium and hotly contested.
One of the few advantages of the current state of the roads has been the informal additional 8/9 parking spaces created by people parking on New Road where the double yellow lines have worn away.
This has made a noticeable difference to the availability of parking elsewhere. In addition, it has ‘naturally’ achieved a calming of traffic along New Road without adversely affecting the flow of traffic, even at busy times, and even assisted the businesses along New Road.
With the very welcome and impeccably achieved resurfacing of the Swindon road, which has reduced traffic sounds appreciably, it looks as though the double yellow lines from Majestic to Oxford Street are about to be replaced – we will lose all the benefits of those parking slots unnecessarily. Not to mention the waste of resources.
Anything that can be done to prevent this, I among many, would be very grateful.
Yours,
Amanda Goatly
