The MOS preview show is a bit like a large firework – bright, sparkling, full of delight … but over in a flash! It runs for only four days from 7th– 10thJune. Nonetheless, it is one of the important annual ‘markers’ of the cultural life in Marlborough and the surrounding towns. It heralds the “Open Studios” season, which runs during each week-end in July.
The aim of the Preview Show is twofold: firstly to act as a ‘shop-window’ for the Open Studios Art Trail and secondly to provide a ‘taster’ of work by those artists opening their studios during July.
The exhibition in the Mount House is, as ever, beautifully presented and as with all such shows contains a wide variety of styles and subject matter. Inevitably the quality is varied, but the best work – and there is lots of excellent work – shows abundant evidence of a very high level of craftsmanship across a range of both two- and three-dimensional media.
Without doubt, it’s a joyous celebration of the energy and commitment of over 75 artists in this region. Be encouraged to visit some of the studios next month. Pick up a free full-colour brochure from the gallery, or from one of the several shops in the participating towns.
