Quilt and textile artist Sandra Meech spoke at our February meeting on the topic of “Journeys”

Originally Sandra trained as an artist but then textiles took over but now she combines

painting and textiles to create her fabric pictures. 

Sandra builds up her pieces by transferring the image onto heat transfer paper

which she then irons onto thin cotton, layers up with other textiles and then stitches into the final picture.

She has travelled extensively and did some amazing work inspired by icebergs, ice lakes and lagoons,

glaciers and water in places as far apart as the Arctic, Antarctic and Iceland. 

Another six-panel piece was inspired by the extensive flooding in the Somerset Levels where she lives.
