Anna Simmons’ ‘Make Light of It’ exhibition is now on at The Little Gallery in The Parade until 29 May. Anna is local, from the Pewsey Vale but her works for this exhibition is of light and from a very different environment. How light can transform a dull or ordinary scene into something captivating. Whilst she may be in a rural environment her exhibited works are from an urban world. Her techniques with oil enable her to create a strong sense of space and light within architectural settings.
In her introduction to the exhibition she describes “the drama of light shining in a dark place”. illuminating moments of stillness within everyday life. Her urban landscapes, interior public spaces, bus stops and escalators become sites of reflection. She explains: “We fear the dark, but if we really have the courage to explore the dark times and accept them, we will gradually begin to see that we cannot have light without the dark. They really are one thing. And the most ordinary places, the bus stop, the escalator, have a beauty of their own, if we are awake to see it.”
There wil be a Coffee Morning on Wednesday 6 May between 11am and 2pm. All welcome but please e-mail The Little Gallery at enquiries@winsorbirch.com if coming.
