Burbage Primary School has achieved a ‘Strong Standard’ judgement across all categories under the new Ofsted framework. Ofsted commented that “pupils experience a happy, safe and nurturing environment where staff know them well and act quickly to reduce any barriers to their learning and wellbeing.” As a result “pupils achieve well.”
Ofsted praised both staff and students. Students were “polite, respectful and eager to learn” and “staff manage behaviour consistently well. They model respectful relationships and maintain high expectations.”
The important role of parents and carers and their relationship with the school was also found to be effective. The report noted that these effective relationships “play an important part in children’s success.” The school’s ‘Kindness Crew’ was another example cited of how positive behaviours help everyone feel included.
Ofsted commented that “well-sequenced routines, high expectations and responsive teaching” support children’s communication, physical development and early social skills.
There is a smooth transition from the on-site pre-school through to fellow Excalibur secondary school, St John’s Marlborough.
Zoe Garbutt, Principal at Burbage Primary School, commented, “The success of this Ofsted report is down to our whole school community, whose enthusiasm and pro-activeness help make Burbage the happy and nurturing place it is. Collectively, we encourage children to believe in their dreams and to always aim high through offering a plethora of experiences and opportunities, all planned with intent and purpose.”
Claire Mirams, Director of Primary Improvement at Excalibur Academies Trust, added, “This is an excellent and well-deserved report. The renewed inspection framework is a demanding and exacting one. To achieve strong grades in every area is a remarkable achievement, and testament to the dedication of the team at Burbage.”
