Jane Davies – Local Conservatives

I have lived in Marlborough for over 20 years and have brought up my three children here. I love our town and villages. Representing the people of Marlborough West and nearby villages over the past eight years has been an honour. Ensuring positive outcomes for local residents wherever possible is really important to me and I have worked hard on your behalf.
Why vote for me?
I know first hand how important our leisure centre is to our community. I am proud of the £2 million plus investment I secured to upgrade and enlarge the gym and changing facilities. There will also be a Changing Places toilet which ensures people of all abilities can use the centre. I will continue to press for further investment in the reception and swimming pool area. As Chair of the Marlborough Area Board I have ensured over £165,000 has been invested in local community projects. As a Town Councillor I have Chaired the Town Centre working party which has brought new signs and tree planters to the High Street with many more improvements to come! This work has been paid for from Wiltshire Council funds through the Wiltshire Towns programme supporting our High Streets. Wiltshire Council is working with Town and Parish Councils to support their ambitions.
Amid the financial challenges faced by local authorities nationwide, I am proud of our success in Wiltshire in controlling costs for tax payers whilst providing Good and Outstanding support for vulnerable Children and Adults and those children with Special Educational Needs. Why is this important for Marlborough? Because many Marlborough residents rely on these essential services and we all pay towards them through our Council Tax. Prudent and well-managed finances in people services mean that we can afford to keep all our libraries and leisure centres open and upto date. Over the last two years we have been able to invest additional funds into highways management, central government allocates around £20 million annually to Wiltshire, we added an extra £11 million each year from 2023 into roads (£22 million so far) and we are starting to see clear improvements locally. Although I am fully aware there is a long way to go still and I will push for Marlborough to get it’s fair share! It is a Conservative manifesto commitment to continue investing extra money into roads above the central government allocation.
Our excellent on demand Wiltshire Connect bus service is a £10 million investment in keeping our community connected (you can book by phone 01225 712900 or by using the App). An additional £800,000 has been invested in maintaining and improving our footpaths and an additional £1 million has been put into preventing flooding on our roads.
Local elections are your chance to choose who runs your local services and voting Conservative is important to keep Wiltshire Council well run, not cutting services like many councils, but investing in them. Please don’t just hope for an efficient council. Please vote for an efficient Council!
