A new law firm with a difference has opened in Marlborough. Marlborough Law Ltd, is run by solicitors, Karen Salmon and Alex Atkins. The firm seeks to offer an affordable service to local people.
Karen Salmon told marlborough.news, “Our set up is quite unique in legal world as we are regulated by the Bar Standards Board and are the only firm in the UK to have done this without a barrister on board.”
“There are many differences from a traditional legal firm but the main one is that we don’t hold Client money so don’t ask for large sums upfront of any work being done and we invoice every month to spread the cost to the Client. We offer a free initial consultation.”
“We want to move away from the traditional High Street solicitor. We keep our overheads low. We are much more about accessibility and affordability,” added Alex.
Situated in Elcot Park off Elcot Lane, customers can drive to the door of the ground floor offices.
Both Karen and Alex are local people. Karen lives in Shalborne and Alex grew up in Marlborough, and attended St. John’s School. “I’m keen to give something back to the community I grew up in,” said Alex.
Marlborough Law Ltd. offers a wide range of legal services. Karen specializes in family law, while Alex specializes in commercial and contract law. Karen is also the solicitor for Swindon Women’s Aid. The firm does not offer conveyancing at present.
The firm has been open since January 2018. Karen explained, “I’m really excited. We are a family company without the traditional lawyer stuffiness. We’ve had a lot of support from local people and referrals from local people. Our three year goal is to branch out into Hungerford and Pewsey and to provide the same quality of service there.”
