James Aitcheson was educated at St John’s, Marlborough and Emmanuel College, Cambridge, where he read Medieval History, with a particular interest in later Anglo-Saxon and Norman England.
He is now a historical novelist, gives regular talks about history and historical fiction, and is also a creative writing tutor.
James’ ‘Conquest’ series, starting with Sworn Sword (which he launched at the White Horse Bookshop in 2012), has been well-received by reviewers and readers, with comparisons to Simon Scarrow, Ben Kane, and Angus Donald.
As a historian as well as a novelist, he continues to research the early medieval period. The Harrowing is his fourth novel: as the victorious Norman army marches North, subjugating the conquered land, five characters band together, fleeing both the devastation wrought by the Normans, and their own pasts…
