Wiltshire Council have just announced that they are to invest £380,000 in new car park machines across the County, and the installation of these new machines will start here, in Marlborough, this week.
Gosh….! Shock horror…! Does this mean that we will all be spared the dreaded ticket from the occasional parking attendant when we needed to park but no machines were active, anywhere near? Some dressed in the super-sized condoms, others just quietly and peacefully unreactive and unusable. Hopefully this will be consigned to history.
The Council have announced: ‘The new payment machines will give customers the choice of paying for their parking using cash or contactless with a card or mobile device. People can also continue to pay using the MiPermit app or by text.
The new machines are compliant with the Equality Act 2010 and all locations have been reviewed in line with the Department for Transport Inclusive Mobility guidance, with ramps installed where appropriate and ensuring the machines are positioned to allow easier access for all users.’
Cllr Nick Holder, Cabinet Member for Highways, said: “We’re excited that the installation programme has now started. The new machines will give people more choice on how they want to pay – either using cash, contactless card or mobile device, or using the MyPermit app. The new machines will be more accessible, robust and resilient, and will be powered by solar or other sustainable means.
“The programme will see new machines installed across the whole of Wiltshire, between July and September, with the installation prioritised in those car parks where the machines have been highlighted as more liable to break down and needing repairs”.
