Midsomer Norton 40 – Marlborough 20
Marlborough suffered a defeat against Midsomer Norton when at one stage it looked like they would go on and win the game.
The team, wearing their new Pharmaton/Euroblend sponsored kit in colours to mark the history of the club as an original 1871 club, started the game well and full back Nathan Morgan kicked a couple of early penalties.
They however once again conceded too many penalties themselves and together with some hard running by the Norton team meant the home team scored 2 tries to lead 10-6 halfway through the first half.
The Marlborough backs always looked dangerous, in particular outside half Moree Nailago and centre Jamie Laing. One move set up prop Cameron McLaren for a tremendous run. He burst through a gap on the half way line and had the pace to go the whole way for a great try. Morgan converting. The half time score was 13-13.
The second half saw a good break out by Marlborough and Laing followed a kick through to control the bouncing ball and touch down, Morgan converted from wide out for a 20-13 lead to the visitors.
Many things were going well for the Marlborough side but also some decisions went against them and some poor discipline at the break down meant the home side started to get good field positions, kick their penalties and scored 3 unanswered tries.
Credit must be given to the Nomads players who stepped up for this game George Heard, Ash Perry and Louis Haisman, George has played first team rugby before but this was his first time in level 7 and also a lot of the game in the centre. Both Ash and Louis made their first team debuts.
The side need to pick themselves up, learn from the mistakes and get ready for the back to back games against Devizes first in the cup and then in the league.
