City of Bath 3 – Marlborough 2
In very wet conditions, Bath started strongly and scored twice in the first 10 minutes. However, Marlborough recovered their composure and began to play their planned game.
An excellent passage of play moving from the defence to attack resulted in an astonishing rocket powered strike into the net from Alex Crosby Jones.
With even play and lots of counter attacking, City of Bath took their opportunities and scored a well worked goal making it 3-1.
Marlborough kept pressing and after a strong attacking period managed to win a short corner. Marlborough scored from it with an excellent strike from Lucy Anderson – making it 3-2.
After half time Marlborough started with obvious determination to level the score. With a solid back line in place, Marlborough were allowing breakers for the mid and forward players, this resulted in more attacking play and chances on goal.
But the forwards were unable to convert those chances. The second half was well fought and the very close result was due to satisfyingly good team play from Marlborough throughout the game.
The Marlborough News Online player of the match was shared between Rachel Cox and Vicky Moxham.
The Ladies First team are now four from bottom of the Premier Division 2A league table – just two places behind City of Bath.
