The company’s rural services team came to Marlborough Business Park in 2009, before Edward Hall opened the estate agency – specialising in country houses and cottages – on High Street in 2012.
It quickly established its name, sponsoring sports clubs and the annual Marlborough Open Studios initiative.
Mr Hall said of the takeover: “This is great news, and offers huge benefits for our estate agency and rural clients.
“The depth of our combined foundations, the strength of Savills’ real estate services, and the natural geographical fit between our neighbouring offices means we can provide exceptional national service, pooling the talent from both firms and offering a greater breadth of disciplines.
“We look forward to further growth of the business always stretching to provide the very best for our clients, both large and small.”
Savills has nearby offices in Andover, Newbury, Salisbury, Cirencester and Bath. It said that all 532 Smiths Gore staff would transfer into Savills’ Rural Energy and Projects division or its Country Residential Agency business.
