Godot’s, the popular bar and brasserie, housed in a grade II listed 17th century timbered property in Kingsbury Street, Marlborough, is up for sale – owners Gary and Lesley Powell seeking £895,000 for the site.
The couple, who have owned Godot’s twice – they sold it once and then later bought it back – who are now planning to retire are marketing the property with High Street agents Smiths Gore.

Smith Gore’s illustrated brochure refers to the “spectacular potential” of the property and adds: “Presented with character, charm and warmth, the front of house accommodation has about 30 covers with a further 40 covers in the open courtyard garden.
“To the rear lies a spectacular former dairy barn with open beam work and cobbled floor and is believed to date from the 17th century.”
And upstairs is a two-storey owner’s accommodation with a spacious sitting/dining room, a modern kitchen/breakfast room, three bedrooms and bathroom.
Patrons of Godot’s tell many tales about its chequered past, the building originally being a dairy that delivered milk in the town. There were a number of subsequent owners, one converting it into Bentleys wine bar before Gary Powell, who had been a local publican after arriving in Marlborough from London’s East End, took it on initially.
