‘Water’ is very important to us all. And especially so to us here in and around Marlborough where we enjoy one of our country’s the beautiful chalk streams – the River Kennet – but have endured recent flooding, something that won’t go away but which we have to constantly raise the guards against what might befall us as our climate inexorably changes.

‘Water is Love: Ripples of a generation’ (to give it the full title) is a ‘thought-provoking documentary’ which follows a group of young people grappling with the climate crisis, whilst journeying around the world to share incredible stories of regenerative ecosystem design to create water retention in communities, villages, and regions.
Bought to Marlborough by ARK (Action for the River Kennet) and Transition Marlborough. Milly Carmichael of Transition Marlborough notes: “We wanted to look at positive ways forward rather the regular beat up of the bad guys.. Without doubt the situation we face has its troubles but we are looking for the positives… ARK’s efforts to improve the Kennet are impressive. The film compliments that and puts focus on everyone playing their part… with Ramsbury supporting with a complimentary Drink before the film starts”.
But in Marlborough, water is an issue in many respects. Milly above notes ‘bad guys’. We have Thames Water who are responsible for much of the Kennet, particularly water levels and quality, as well as charging us ever increasing amounts, and impacting on our lives by closing / restricting roads and causing unnecessary gridlock. If you haven’t already, watch the three-part DocuDrama on C4 – ‘Dirty Business‘ (click for info and trailer).
‘Dirty Business‘ is about our water industry and prominently features – not surprisingly – our Thames Water. A ‘DocuDrama – ‘Docu‘ for accuracy and fact, rather than fiction, and ‘Drama‘ for telling the story, engaging with us the viewer and bringing us face-to-face with what is actually happening. Definitely one to watch, in the same class as ‘Mr Bates v The Post Office‘, the acclaimed ‘DocuDrama’ about the Post Office Horizon scandal.
It is ‘eye-opening’, bring home to the view what is actually happening, the role of the Water Cos., the Environment Agency and how that affects us. We see what Thames Water does around here – and we suffer the effects.
Water is life. Without water we – and the rest of life cannot exist. It is that important and this Documentary – ‘Water is Love: Ripples of a generation’ – will show how real this is to everyone, everywhere.
