Not the hoped for bright blue sky and plenty of sun – or not to start with at 09:30 but the overcast grey sky didn’t deter the many youngsters from turning up at the Salisbury Road Recreation Ground for this year’s Sports Festival. Lots of different sports to try, all with a bit of expert coaching on hand to give those who came a real opportunity to see if they might be good at something they hadn’t tried before, or discover a news sport that was fun.

To try there was football, rugby, cricket, skate park – scooters and boards, tennis, hockey, golf, fitness and gym, table tennis, and climbing, with a big mobile climbing wall where what was once a risky venture could be tried in total safety.

Lunch as provided (by Marlborough College) and the day was created, managed and run by the Marlborough Sports Forum team, along with the Youth Centre team of Cllr Lisa Farrell. “Great to see so many youngsters turn up” said Marlborough Sports Forum chair, Simon Wells.

All equipment was provided – golf clubs, tennis rackets and balls – everything was there for the participants to use. and at no cost. Sponsors and the Area Board helped make it all possible and volunteers on hand to make all go smoothly so that everyone had a chance to try everything.
