Marlborough today commemorated the 75th anniversary of VJ Day, the day that WWII formally ended.
In a muted but respectful ceremony Town Crier Mike Tupman read a ‘Cry for Peace’ (see below) from the steps of the Town Hall.
Marlborough British Legion Standard Bearer Dean Hartop then led the party of Town Crier Mike Tupman, Mayor Mark Cooper (his first ‘robed’ engagement since becoming Mayor in early May), Stewart Dobson (representing Marlborough British Legion) and Mace Bearer Bob Dobie down New Road to the Barn St War Memorial.
The party were joined by Marlborough British Legion President Tony Gray and former Chairman, Alec Light for a wreath laying ceremony.
Mayor Mark Cooper laid a wreath on behalf of the Town, whilst Stewart Dobson laid a wreath on behalf of the Marlborough branch of the Royal British Legion.
