If the lure of the stage is too great to ignore then next Wednesday, 30 September at 7.30 pm your opportunity awaits in the Stable Rooms at The Lamb in The Parade.
Marlborough Players will be holding a reading of “What the Butler Saw”, Joe Orton’s classic farce of the late sixties.
“Play reading evenings are a great opportunity to try something new” enthuses Gail Sinden of Marlborough Players. “If you have always longed to tread the boards but were too nervous to audition then this is the ideal arrangement. Everyone who turns up and would like to read a part will be given a chance. It is relaxed and informal (as a young female you may find yourself reading the part of a 60 year old man!) and there is no pressure whatsoever to “perform”! It’s a great chance to see if local community theatre is for you, meet new people and other members of The Marlborough Players and, as it is at The Lamb, enjoy your favourite tipple!” she added.
For many, the thought of standing up in front of a bunch of strangers, trying to remember lines whilst at the same time “acting naturally” is enough to bring on a panic attack!
However for the hundreds of thousands of people in the UK who regularly tread the theatrical boards, (putting on over 30,000 amateur productions a year), it is not only an enjoyable hobby but one that builds confidence and encourages like-minded friendships (and an active social life!).
“Many people who join the Marlborough Players do it because they have been bitten by the acting bug and love performing.” Gail pointed out. “We take pride in the professional quality of all our productions and over the last decade have entertained thousands of local Marlborough people with some fabulous productions.”
The Marlborough Players are looking to encourage new members to join the society – whether it is treading the board or helping out backstage. As a community group they are reliant on local support and are keen to hear from anyone who would be interested in being involved. “We are always on the lookout for both male and female actors of any age. It doesn’t matter if you last trod the boards 20 years ago, have been a regular on the scene or are an acting novice. If you are willing to give it a go we would love to hear from you.”
