Age – irrelevant. Tennis is there for those of all years. From the youngest child knocking a ball over the net with the most simple of rackets, through all the stages of ‘energetic’ tennis, right through to the more sedate style of the game – ‘Walking Tennis’. Ideal for those of a slightly more advanced age and for whom the ‘energetic’ demands can be just a bit excessive. Marlborough Tennis at Port Hill welcomes you – all.
Walking Tennis is a safe, fun, inclusive, a fantastic way to stay active and it is now part of Marlborough Tennis’ weekly programme. Open to all, whether a lifelong tennis player, a complete beginner or just need more time to get into the swing of things.
Walking Tennis can be played at any age and offers an easy way for those “less young and less active” to keep their mind and body healthy whilst enjoying the social side of being part of a tennis community. Also grandparents playing with their grandkids. A leveller of the ages
“It is great to see players who may find tennis too exerting really enjoying walking tennis,” said Hilda Moore, Trustee at Marlborough Tennis. “We have players who are just starting out, some returning from injury and some that simply need more time to get to the ball.”
The rules can vary but what is common across all formats is that the ball can bounce twice. “And no running allowed” says Hilda.
Marlborough Tennis runs two sessions, one every Wednesday morning in association with u3a which carries the title “Double Bounce”, and the second on Fridays at 10am. “We have players across all age groups including some who won’t mind me saying are in their 80s so it is never too late to start!” adds Hilda.

“Everyone is welcome” says Hilda, “no matter what age or what ability. What could be better than taking some gentle exercise in the fresh air and having fun? Walking tennis is great for both physical and mental well-being.”
