There are very few opportunities to drive any steam engine, to drive a Beam Engine is one of the rarest. Crofton Beam Engines are pleased to offer the opportunity to drive both Beam engines during a very special day.
Accompanied by a highly knowledgeable volunteer, you can help light and stoke the boiler, work with the Duty Engineer, enter areas not normally seen by the public, help prepare the engines for steaming, and finally take control of the oldest working beam engine in the world. In addition, you can enjoy meeting the volunteer team and working closely with them. You will be provided with a boiler suit and breakfast. Bring your own lunch so you can “chew the fat” with other volunteers in the crew room.
Steam experiences are normally restricted to one person per steaming, although if you want to come with a family member or close friend then Crofton can accommodate two people on a single steaming.
Ideal as a special treat for yourself or a very unusual present for the steam enthusiast or anyone who likes a challenge.
Steam experience days are extremely popular and there are only have a few places left in this year’s calendar. There is availability on May the 25th, June the 20th, August the 30th and 31st and September the 26th and 27th.
