I thoroughly commend Tony Millet’s efforts to expose the lack of consultation between Wiltshire Council and Marlborough Town Council over the sale of former St Peter’s Junior School site in Marlborough, also Mervyn Hall and others efforts to flag up the potential of this site as a community hub and site for social housing.
Is it too late for Marlborough citizens to come together and think creatively how we might bring this about? To think how these buildings could be used to benefit the community and bring people together in a variety of ways.
Recently George Monbiot wrote an article about the ability of ‘the most deprived area of London, Dagenham and Barking’ to transform itself with a five year experiment called ‘Every One, Every Day’ which aimed to attract talent, fostering simple projects that immediately improve people’s lives. It was most inspiring to read about it.
We have many groups in Marlborough including Transition, the churches, MAPAG [Marlborough Area Poverty Action Group], to name but a few who would embrace such thinking.
