On Saturday 13th June, eight intrepid members of staff from St John’s Marlborough completed a 22-mile trek across the Abergavenny Three Peaks in aid of Prospect Hospice in Wroughton. Ascending Blorenge, Sugar Loaf and the near-vertical Skirrid peaks, the St John’s team completed their 22-mile hike in under 11 hours. Most importantly, so far they have raised £1,397 for Prospect Hospice, Wroughton.
Prospect Hospice provides compassionate end-of-life care for those living in Swindon, north-east Wiltshire, Fairford and Lechlade. They also have a specialist Family Support team, who can provide advice, guidance and support during what is a difficult and emotional time. Prospect Hospice does not charge for their services and relies solely on fundraising efforts to continue to support those who most need it.
Prospect Hospice in Wroughton has a special connection with St John’s Marlborough, having looked after former members of staff and pupils’ family members during their end-of-life care. This made the 22-mile hike all the more poignant and valuable.
Alan Henderson, Principal of St John’s, commented, “I’m incredibly proud of the staff who took on this Three Peaks challenge. It’s a brilliant example of the energy, generosity and team spirit that make St John’s such a special community. Their effort and the support they’ve raised for Prospect Hospice, says so much about who they are. A fantastic achievement.”
Ben Lee, Head of Relationship Fundraising at Prospect Hospice, said: “We are incredibly grateful to everyone who took part in the Abergavenny 3 Peaks Challenge and to those who have supported them. Raising £1,397 is a fantastic achievement and will make a real difference to the patients and families we care for. Community fundraising like this is vital in helping us continue to provide compassionate, specialist care when it’s needed most. On behalf of everyone at Prospect Hospice, thank you for your dedication, effort and generosity.
Congratulations to all staff who took part. You really embraced the school’s values of Ambition, Integrity and Respect whilst raising money for such a worthwhile cause.”
