Ramsbury Primary School has secured first places in three Marlborough Cluster festivals: QuadKids (athletics), Orienteering and Tri-Golf. As all three teams were awarded first place, they each received a ‘Golden Ticket’, automatically qualifying them into the WASP(Wiltshire and Swindon Sport) School Games County Final which took place at Dauntsey’s School today, July 4.
The wet and windy conditions did not dampen the children’s enthusiasm. The Tri Golf team chipped and putted their way to a brilliant second place, and were awarded silver medals. “We kept going even when it started to pour down with rain! Our team cheered each other on and we tried our best,” said Captain Flynn.
The Orienteering team also gained silver medals, working superbly in their pairs, navigating their way around the course quickly. Team Leader, Violet celebrated her birthday in style saying, “It was really good fun orienteering a different course through the woods! There was brilliant teamwork from everyone.”
The QuadKids battled in all 4 events, pushing themselves to their very best, with many PBs achieved in the 600m. Team Captain, Reuben stated, “The windy conditions made the vortex throwing tricky, but everyone tried their best.”
This year, Ramsbury pupils also took part in a Physical Activity Festival, which introduced the children to a range of new sports, with Quidditch quickly becoming the most popular!
Mrs Rean, Assistant Head Teacher, said, “This is a huge achievement for the school. The school community are very proud of all the children who participated and their PE teacher, Mrs Clarke, for her outstanding teaching across the whole school.
Mrs Clarke joined the school in September 2022 and has enjoyed a hugely successful first year teaching at Ramsbury. She has encouraged the children to take part in various competitive and non-competitive festivals. Mrs Clarke has created positive experiences for all children in a range of activities which have promoted confidence, motivation and competence.
All Marlborough Cluster sporting competitions are led by Charlie Wildman, School Games Organiser, and without her tireless energy and enthusiasm, none of these activities would be able to take place.
We are delighted to have so many children competing in different sports tournaments, showing not only their skill and athleticism, but also fantastic teamwork and respect for each other. Mrs Clarke has been a fabulous coach to the children of Ramsbury Primary School, ensuring they all develop a lifelong love of all sports.”
Mrs Clarke, PE Teacher, said, “I am absolutely thrilled to teach children at Ramsbury School. The competitive spirit here at Ramsbury is brilliant, yet what pleases me the most is the resilience they have shown and the teamwork and support they show to their teammates. I am delighted to be their PE teacher.”
