Pumpkins straight from a horror movie gathered at Marlborough Rugby Football Club (MRFC) on Sunday November 1 as part of All Hallows celebrations. The nightmarish pumpkins were carved by the mini/junior members of the club who were entering the club’s pumpkin carving competition. The competition was supported by Club Sponsor ‘Compeed’ who provided ‘Ducklings Toy Shop’ vouchers for prizes.
Judges Kate Evans (Compeed’s representative) and Ben Thompson from MRFC had a difficult job in choosing the winners from the 26 gruesome grinning pumpkins entered into the competition. It took them a considerable amount of time to decide which of the pumpkins would be awarded 1st , 2nd and 3rd prizes.
First prize was awarded to Zavier Zebedee (U10) with his fantastic creation. Second prize went to Toby Place (U8) and third went to Thomas Close (U6).
All the children who entered were rewarded with some sweets to help stock up their treat stash as many probably hadn’t been able to participate in the normal Halloween tradition of ‘trick or treating’ the previous evening.
Those entrants who were not awarded the top prizes were also given a ‘Freddo’ as thank you for taking part. These were very kindly provided by Ben Thompson.
A spokesman for the club commented, “Many thanks to all the children and their parents for making this such a success especially as this has now sadly turned out to be our last session at the Club for a while – but great to go out on a high.”
