On Saturday 11 July the Swindon and District Samaritans will be holding a Garden Party – at Clench Common – to raise much-needed funds for this important, but frequently forgotten charity that is there to help, anyone, at any time but normally at their darkest moment.
Samaritans is a volunteer organisation. Everyone who is there for each of the callers is doing it because they can help. Not for reimbursement, but to be there and listening to someone on the other end of the line who may be in desperate need of that ear. That may save someone’s life.
What the Garden Party can do is raise funds to help make that Samaritans ear possible.
Samaritans is a charity built on a simple belief, that no one should face their darkest moments alone. Every day, trained volunteers offer emotional support to anyone who needs someone to listen — without judgement, pressure, or expectation. The organisation’s strength lies in its 24/7 listening service, powered entirely by 20.000 plus volunteers.
Whether someone is struggling with loneliness, mental health challenges, grief, or simply feeling overwhelmed, Samaritans provides a safe, confidential space where they can talk openly and be heard.
Beyond the phone lines, Samaritans also works within communities, schools, workplaces, and public services to promote suicide prevention and encourage people to reach out early.
At its heart, Samaritans is a reminder that kindness, empathy, and human connection can change — and even save — someone’s life.
