Barrels have been spotted being delivered to the – pub down the High Street opposite St Peter’s. The ‘Marlborough’ sign is still above the door, but will the new landlords take advantage of the pub’s heritage and go back to its popular and well-loved name of many years, The Sun Inn? Guess this is something we’ll find out soon.
Many regulars probably won’t care either way, but quite a few, who were alienated by the name change and have avoided the pub ever since, maybe they could be tempted back in? And for any pub or hospitality business it’s the small variations in customer numbers that can make all the difference, and in tough times like the present this could be make or break.
In Manton, once the ‘Outside Chance’ closed and was taken on by new tenants, it reverted to the name by which it had been known (and frequented) for generations – The Oddfellows Arms. It’s still there, pretty busy and attracting good custom.
Will the new landlord at this pub do the same? Will the Sun rise again by St Peter’s?
