They were a team of amateur cyclists on a mission to raise funds for the Male Cancer Awareness Charity.
“We are on a particular challenge to cycle 600 miles in six days,” one member of the group, who prefer not to identify themselves, told Marlborough News Online.
“We started in Southend-on-Sea, on the east coast of Britain, and on Saturday we shall finish in Galway, on the west coast of Ireland.
“We are all amateur cyclists taking part in a charity ride. And, after 150 miles, the going hasn’t been bad – only one puncture so far.”
The 10 men in pink come from all over the country, including one Australian, who claimed to be a UK citizen.
“I think this is a fantastic effort for a brilliant cause,” he said in his Aussie accent. “We have great bunch of guys with their own sponsorship forms… We will be raising £10,000 on this ride to Galway.”
The Near Naked Men have, in fact, been going for nine years, intent on raising awareness for the sometimes embarrassing subject of prostate cancer.
The charity team have with them a support group of two women, who organise overnight accommodation for the riders and meal breaks.
“They are vital to what we do,” said the Aussie as the team rode off down Marlborough High Street.
