May the Force be with you – Robert Watts visits Marlborough College to share experiences from the other side of the Star Wars lens

A Marlborough audience will be given a rare glimpse behind the scenes of the Empire, the Death Star, the world of Darth Vader and the Jedi when Star Wars producer, Robert Watts revisits his Alma Mater, the newly refurbished Memorial Hall at Marlborough College on Wednesday next week, February 13 at 7:30pm to talk with BBC journalist David Whiteley and answer questions about his time at Marlborough and his life in the film industry.

 

It is almost guaranteed that Robert Watts’ name will appear on the credits for many of cinema’s all-time great films over the past five decades.  

 

During the course of his long and distinguished career he has played a key role in the making of seven of the top 100 highest-grossing films of all time:  Thunderball;  the first Star Wars trilogy;  the Indiana Jones series, as well as other vanguard films such as:  2001 A Space Odessy;  Papillon;  Meetings With Remarkable Men;  Who Framed Roger Rabbit?; and many more besides.

 

The experience he gained in the making of over thirty-five films, coupled with his calm, loyal and amicable nature earned him the trust and respect of directors including John Schlesinger;  Ken Russell,  Stanley Kubrick;  Peter Book;  George Lucas and Steven Spielberg.  

 

As location manager and producer Robert regularly travelled from one end of the globe to the other and was responsible for the scheduling and budgeting of films; for hiring crews, for overseeing the travel accommodations of cast and crew, the moving of equipment and, most of all, credited with using intelligence and resourcefulness to solve the inevitable crises and difficulties inherent in film making.  

 

He is an accomplished public speaker and is in regular demand by British and International TV film companies for interviews and documentaries, as well as making appearances at Star Wars and Indiana Jones conventions.  His talk will be accompanied by slides and film clips from the productions on which he has worked.
