The Mayor presented the cheque to Chief Executive Officer Babs Harris. The funds were well received and the Mayor is looking forward to visiting the group’s Day Care Club in Devizes to see some of the charity’s other work. The charity, which covers west and east Wiltshire, would like to start a similar Club for Marlborough.
In Marlborough and the surrounding villages there are 58 carers and cared-for who use Alzheimer’s Support. It is a small independent charity set up in 1991 and supports people with dementia and their family carers.
It is estimated that there are 6,942 people in Wiltshire with dementia. The group runs its carer’s group in Marlborough High Street and works closely with the Marlborough Medical Practice and other local health and social care agencies.
More information about the charity’s work can be found on their website.
There is still money left in this year’s budget for the Town Council’s small grants scheme. The scheme’s criteria and an application form can be downloaded from the Town Council’s website.
