The Town Mayor, Councillor Margaret Rose, has handed over a cheque for £500 to the Alzheimer’s Support charity. This is one of the Town Council’s small grants and the presentation was made at a regular Alzheimer’s Support carers’ meeting at the Conservative Club rooms (September 11.)
The Mayor presented the cheque to Chief Executive Officer Babs Harris. The funds were well received and the Mayor is looking forward to visiting the group’s Day Care Club in Devizes to see some of the charity’s other work. The charity, which covers west and east Wiltshire, would like to start a similar Club for Marlborough.
In Marlborough and the surrounding villages there are 58 carers and cared-for who use Alzheimer’s Support. It is a small independent charity set up in 1991 and supports people with dementia and their family carers.
It is estimated that there are 6,942 people in Wiltshire with dementia. The group runs its carer’s group in Marlborough High Street and works closely with the Marlborough Medical Practice and other local health and social care agencies.
