Hard on the heels of Wiltshire Council’s announcement that – at last – new (working?) parking machines are bing installed in the town’s car parks, the Town Council noted and approved the proposed Residents’ Parking Permit Scheme for Kennet Place – and also agreed to support a change to spaces outside Superdrug in the High Street.
The Kennet Place Residents’ Permit Scheme has been long in discussion, debated decision, and eventually action. It’s nearly there. This stage has been reached following a period of consultation and – in the words of Wiltshire Council – ‘is intended to improve road and pedestrian safety and to allay concerns of safety expressed by residents’.
It’s been agreed. The date that the new rules came into force was 2 July, but we still don’t have the actual details of who (eligible) / what / where (exactly) / when / cost (if?).
Regarding the High Street spaces adjacent to Superdrug, presently there is a section of yellow line (parking OK post 18:30 weekdays), which is rarely observed, unless a parking attendant is on patrol somewhere. Replacing the yellow line section with parking bays (adjacent to the kerb) should allow (legally) parking for about six more cars. There was a debate about the disabled provision and a dropped kerb, which will have to be resolved before the lines are painted, but in principle, Councillors are behind this scheme.
