A week Saturday – 20 July – St Peter’s will resound to the Mezzo Soprano of Alice Simmons, the violin of Sarah Off and piano / guitar accompaniment of Dylan Fixmer in ‘Living Among…’ a concert centred around the experience of being immersed in nature and the elements.

Marlborough’s Alice Simmons explains to Marlborough.news about how this came together: “Songs of Skellig Catherine” is a work by Dylan Fixmer inspired by the experiences of author Catherine Merrgan’s time as a warden on Skellig Michael (an island out in the Atlantic beyond the South west tip of Kerry), and based on her poetic memoir from her time there. And also ‘Safernoc’, a work by Paul Elwood inspired by the natural beauty, myths and legends of Savernake Forest.
Dr Sarah Off is associate professor of Violin at the University of Northern Colorado, her husband Dylan Fixmer is composer in residence at Greeley Philharmonic also in Colorado, while Alice Simmons (also a performer and teacher) hails from somewhere far closer to here. Hence St Peter’s as the perfect venue for a concert of natural and haunting music and theme.
