After the devastation caused by Marlborough’s floods last month, local businesses have been working hard to renovate and reopen. This week, Roy and Sylvia are pleased to open up Krumbz Cafe in Kennet Place and on Wednesday, Feb 14th, Valentine’s Day, Din Mohammed will be delighted to open The Zaika Inn on London Road. Both owners are very grateful for all the support they have received from the local community.

Roy told Marlborough.news, “The community has really come together to help us. So many friendly faces came in to assist – anything from manual labour to cleaning or just a word of encouragement. It boosted us. Within two weeks we had reached our target on our GoFundme page.”
Like Roy and Sylvia, Din Mohammed has also faced a huge bill of £20,000 as the properties cannot be insured against flood. He also set up a GoFundMe page and told Marlborough.news, “Local trades people – decorators, carpenters, flooring, plasterers, electricians, plumbers, most of them who are our customers, have supported us and allowed us to re-open in record time. Thank you to everyone for your unwavering support, this wouldn’t have been possible without the kindness and generosity shown by the community.”

Din, who has been serving Indian food in Marlborough for 25 years, also received a visit of support from local MP Danny Kruger.
At Krumbz Cafe the floodwater rose to the level of the kitchen counter and dislodged a fridge which then crashed into the window cracking the seal. As well as drying out the property, a new window, new kitchen, new flooring, new skirting boards and plaster on the walls have been completed in record time. Roy said, “Our contractor – Gerard Romanowicz has done an amazing job.”
The community of Marlborough can now continue to support these well-loved businesses by becoming customers. When Marlborough.news visited Krumbz this morning it was buzzing with many enjoying the sunshine in the riverside garden – let’s hope for plenty more days like today. At The Zaika Inn, Din says, “I am looking forward to seeing all my regular customers and hopefully some new ones too. Top favourite dish – Mourgh 65 is on the menu!”
Krumbz Cafe is open Mon-Fri 8 am – 2 pm and Saturday 9 am – 2 pm The Zaika Inn is open 7 days a week for takeaways and eating in from 5 pm to 10.30pm. Phone 01672 515894 and 01672 514681 for bookings and takeaways
