Marlborough Ladies Who Latte(LWL), a networking group for local business women, are joining forces with the Swindon Soroptimists, a global women’s voluntary organisation, to celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8 in an online meeting. And they are extending an invitation to anyone who would like to join them.
The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day(IWD) is ‘Choose to Challenge.’ While the day is designed to celebrate women’s achievements there is an awareness that not only has the pandemic been tough for businesses but also for gender equality.
Salèha El D. Pinhorn, Co-Host of Marlborough Ladies Who Latte, told Marlborough.news, “We can all choose to seek out and celebrate women’s achievements. Collectively, we can all help create an inclusive world. We are holding an online event on Monday 8th March at 9.30 am via Teams. The event is to say, despite the pandemic, we are all still there and we can get through it together. Please click here to register.
As part of International Women’s Day, individuals and groups are being asked to send in photos of themselves with their hands raised high to show commitment to choose to challenge inequality, call out bias, question stereotypes, and help forge an inclusive world.
Salèha commented, “The plan for our online event is to give centre stage to the LWL in the pictures (see the photos at the beginning of article). They will tell us briefly what IWD means for them, their hopes and why they chose the‘word(s)’ to celebrate Women.
We would love the people of Marlborough and surroundings to get involved too, by sending a picture of you with your right hand up high. We will publish the pictures (only with permission to do so) to our private FB group, on Instagram, and in our Newsletter. For every picture received we need clear permission to publish online. So, hand up high to show you’re in! Will you commit to challenging inequality? Raise your hand high to show you’re in and that you commit to choosing to challenge and call out inequality.”
