Home-Start Kennet are now able to announce the success of their application to the National Lottery – with an incredible £410,000 being awarded to the charity over 3 years for their Growing Stronger Together project.
The charity gives home-visiting support to young families facing challenges such as: isolation, loneliness, poor health, bereavement and multiple birth. Last year they helped 98 families and 198 children across the Marlborough, Devizes, Pewsey, Calne, Chippenham, and Tidworth areas.
Tania Rackham, Home–Start Kennet Scheme Manager, said: “We are enormously grateful to the National Lottery. This incredible amount will enable us to carry on supporting families who are facing significant challenges. Now, more than ever, our 1-1 support can help make all the difference to a family going through a difficult time.”
Parents Amber and Jason, contacted Home-Start for support last year. Amber said: “Home-Start will always be close to our hearts. During a really difficult time suffering with post- natal depression, becoming a first-time mum to twins and with family hundreds of miles away, Home-Start Kennet were amazing. “
“From our first meeting they made me feel so relaxed as I was so worried about seeking the help I needed. From then on, each week I would look forward to Jo, my volunteer, coming round – not only was she an extra pair of hands but it felt like I had a friend coming round, someone to just have an adult conversation with during what felt like an extremely lonely and isolating time. They really are such amazing people!’’
Home-Start – like many charities currently unable to provide face to face support – is rapidly adapting its service to ensure families are not left unsupported during the Coronavirus crisis. Phone support, for example, is proving invaluable.
