On World Book Day last week Ogbourne CofE Primary School pupils came to school dressed to show their interpretation of chosen words from the dictionary. This is the second year this activity, designed to increase pupils’ vocabulary, has taken place.
Principal, Lucy Crump, told Marlborough.news, “We had a wonderful World Book Day 2026 last Thursday when we welcomed ‘glorious’, ‘golden’ ‘groovy children into school for the occasion. Thank you to all the children for their excellent participation in this years ‘dictionary’ dressing up.
Our day was focused on the classic book ‘Would you Rather’ by John Burningham. Brooks class gave an excellent demonstration of their oracy and discussion work this term. Having agreed a set of rules of respectful debate and using sentence starters such as ‘I agree with… but would like to add’, the children had group discussions back in their classrooms to debate questions such as Would you rather have a monkey to box with, a dog to skate with or a bear to read to?!
All the classes showed how good they were at listening to each other and building their own argument.”
