Stand Sure Orchestra & Choirs, which formed in September 2021 are performing their fourth concert – The Glory of Gershwin on Saturday July 23rd, 7:30pm, in the Hemery Hall, St. Francis School, Pewsey. All tickets are £10 and are available to purchase from The Little Lunch Box, Pewsey, on the door or online here.
Musical Director, Chris Anderson said, “Following our successful and varied concerts, this end of (academic) year concert promises to be no different. It’s an all-Gershwin extravaganza bursting with Broadway glamour, toe-tapping tunes, and a touch of elegant poignancy.
American composer George Gershwin enjoyed a sophisticated celebrity status thanks largely to his music which is filled with enduring and remarkable harmonies that captured the 1920’s New York style. But he was also able to be diverse as this Glory Of Gershwin concert will prove.
Featuring around 40 local musicians and singers you’ll hear well known pieces such as I Got Rhythm, Embraceable You, Summertime and highlights from An American in Paris. But you’ll also hear lesser played items including his 3 preludes (especially arranged for SSOCs), Somebody Loves Me, and Fascinating Rhythm. The orchestra and choir will also take you on a Gershwin Tribute To Love which will include S’Wonderful, They Can’t Take That Away From Me, and Love Is Here To Stay. Start your Summer Holidays in style!”
