George Lane will be closed for ‘a maximum of’ five days as from this Thursday – 30 November. Whether this actually means ‘five days’ or not, we don’t know. Hopefully the works will be completed well within that timescale. Maybe just Thursday.
The (obvious) diversionary route is along the High Street, as there is no other smaller road alternative in the town.
Hopefully the closure will be for just the single day but if not completed then the ‘approval’ covers a full five day period. George Lane seems to feature regularly in road closure notices, a popular stretch of road to dig up, if not by Thames Water (or their contractors), then by the ‘Gigas’ – the fibre broadband installers, the gas utilities, or electricity utilities. With only two East West routes through Marlborough, with no readily accessible alternative routes for a diversion, on Thursday it’s the High Street only.
