After the winter layoff and time for maintenance, Crofton Beam Engines will be open and back in Steam for the first time in 2025 to celebrate Easter and their great industrial heritage. Opportunity to see the classic steam engines working as they have done since 1813.
The 1812 Boulton & Watt and 1846 Harvey Beam Engines will be doing their original job of pumping water to the summit of the Kennet & Avon Canal, keeping this very important waterway open for all.
Not just seeing the magnificent sight of the engines operating as they were over two centuries ago. Plenty more going on to entertain everyone, adults and children alike. Talk with Crofton’s knowledgeable volunteers about the history of the site and how everything works.
Join in the Easter Egg Trail and Duck Race. Or make an Easter Bonnet or bring along your own. Prizes for completing the trail, first and last duck in the race and best bonnet. If you are feeling energetic you can walk from Crofton to Wilton Windmill along the old Roman Road.
The Smithy will be open for light refreshments, sit in the grounds and watch life go by on the canal. You can bring a picnic and enjoy the beautiful views of Wilton Water and beyond.
Crofton will be open on both Sunday the 20th and Monday the 21st of April, from 10 a.m. and the station from 10.30 a.m. Last admissions to the Station 4 p.m.
