Last night, Marlborough’s St Mary’s Church hosted its inaugural Community Carol Service, a heartwarming event that united the entire town in festive spirit. Organised by Mayor Kym-Marie Cleasby, the service invited community groups to select their favourite carols, creating a program that reflected the diverse and vibrant character of Marlborough.
Among the distinguished guests were The Lord Lieutenant Lady Sarah Troughton, High Sheriff Olivia Chapple, and local Councillors, who joined residents from all walks of life to celebrate the season. The beautifully adorned church provided the perfect setting for the occasion, which saw a remarkable turnout from across the community.
Mayor Kym-Marie Cleasby’s vision of a carol service for everyone came to life as voices rose in unison, spreading joy and togetherness. The event not only celebrated Christmas but also the spirit of unity that makes Marlborough special.
This memorable evening marks the beginning of a cherished tradition for the town, showcasing the power of music and community to bring people closer during the festive season.
HM Lord – Lieutenant of Wiltshire Mrs Sarah Troughton thanked the Mayor for being invited and involved in this special service:
“Dear Madam Mayor
What a wonderful packed Civic Community Carol Service in St Mary’s Church and thank you so much for inviting Peter and me. I have been to a fair number of Carol Services in the last three weeks and yours tonight was particularly inspiring! The choir was exceptionally good and those descants memorable . I believe the Choral Soc. swelled their numbers and it made for some magnificent singing. We enjoyed it hugely.”
