Neil Hamilton, chairman of Wiltshire UKIP, has poured scorn on the warm welcome given to George Osborne’s spending review by Devizes MP Claire Perry, whom he is threatening to stand against at the next election.
And he has called upon her to resign “if she had any shame” over the fate of the country’s finances.
“It’s pity John McEnroe wasn’t an MP listening to George Osborne’s spending review speech,” former Tory MP Hamilton told Marlborough News Online .
“He could have told him, ‘You can NOT be serious!’ The review doesn’t even scratch the government’s deficit.
“Claire Perry is the Dawn French of financial dieting if she thinks Osborne’s plans will slim the the huge deficit. Let’s get real.
“Osborne plans to save £11.5 billion in two years time — by which time the national debt will have gone up by £240 billion. The deficit currently runs at £11bn A MONTH.
“So £11.5 billion pays for June – what then?”
And he added: “Gordon Brown doubled the national debt to £700 billion. Osborne will more than double it to £1.6 trillion by 2016.
“He is the worst Tory Chancellor since Anthony Barber, who caused 27 per cent inflation and the creation of the three-day week in 1974.
“Claire ‘give me a job’ Perry tells the Chancellor how wonderful he is whilst the country goes to hell in a handcart.
“The Coalition is spending £46 billion a year on debt interest — but only £45 billion on defence.
“ She is parliamentary aide to the Defence Secretary Philip Hammond, If she had any shame, she would resign.”
