At Monday’s (23 March) meeting of the Full Town Council during the ‘Question Time’ session at the start of the meeting there will be an opportunity for anyone to ask any questions about what is being proposed. Then after ‘Crime and Disorder’ – the report from the local Police there will be a presentation about the proposal for the Cemetery extension, after which any further questions can be asked. The current Cemetery is getting full. Only a relatively small amount of space is left and this could be filled within the forthcoming decade. So an extension is necessary. The ideal area for an extension is immediately adjacent to the current Cemetery but this is on Common Land. Rules (DEFRA) dictate that alternative Common Land be identified and become available. Hence the proposed area between Tin Pit and Bay Meadow would become Common Land, to balance the area being taken for the new Cemetery extension. In essence, a ‘Land Swap’.
Any questions? Come along to the Town Council meeting on Monday, starts at 7pm.

The ‘consultation’ will end with a vote. This will take place on Monday 16 April and there will be one voting booth – at the Town Hall. Not quite so rigourous as a Council or Parliamentary election in so far that no poll cards will be sent out, but the vote is open to all registered electors in the Marlborough Parish (both East and West wards) but photo ID will be required and names will be checked against the electoral roll.
