Last Friday, Valentine’s Day, was the official opening of Burbage Primary School’s new room. With the whole school assembled, Clare Clarke, treasurer of Burbage PTA cut the ribbon and declared the room open. Named ‘The Retreat’, the glass fronted room will enable the school to expand its ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support) and provide an additional space for wellbeing. The room is a lovely light and airy space which looks onto the school’s huge field and thriving vegetable patches, making it the perfect space to “Retreat” to. The room is large enough for a whole class to use for circle times and other activities away from the traditional classrooms.
The school’s Parent Teacher Association have worked hard to fundraise money for The Retreat. The school was also pleased to receive a donation of £5000 from Aster Housing Association towards costs. Aster Housing are the owners of the land adjacent to the school where their contractors EG Carter are building affordable housing
Zoe Garbutt, Principal of Burbage Primary School said, “We are hugely grateful to our amazing and dedicated PTA and to Aster Housing for their part in the fundraising. At the opening ceremony the children enjoyed a special ‘wellness’ drink made from fresh fruit to celebrate the new room and all the amazing supporters who helped make it happen, three cheers for Burbage and its wider community.”
A spokesperson for Aster Group said, “We’re delighted our donation of £5,000 to Burbage Primary School, which is next to our new affordable housing development, has been used towards building a new retreat for the children, offering them a peaceful and enriching environment to thrive. This initiative is part of our ongoing commitment to positively engage with and support the communities where we deliver much-needed new homes.”
