UPDATE: it is expected that the traffic lights will be operating in Barn Street until Tuesday night (October 3). Wiltshire Council says the delays to traffic will be “moderate”. Thursday morning (September 28) saw a team of scaffolders arrive to shore up the garage on Barn Street that was damaged the day before by an Army vehicle – see adjacent article.
When marlborough.news arrived the traffic lights were not working and traffic was being controlled by one man running between the lights – which were both showing red.
There is no indication as to how long the the work will on the garage will take or how long the one-way traffic flow will be needed.
The queue of vehicles coming into Marlborough from the north was said by one driver who had finally reached The Green, to be one-and-a-half miles long.
The backed up traffic to the south, up the Salisbury Road, sent some drivers diverting off the A346 and through Wootton Rivers onto the A345 to get into the centre of Marlborough.
