
Luckily the rain held off. Somebody knew someone who knew how to get hold of the right keys. Wiltshire Council staff were called and the signs were rapidly in place. And within half-an-hour the operation had moved inside – and it was business as usual.
Perhaps not very legally proper, but in the best traditions of British ‘make do’.
The polling station at the Town Hall was open on time and soon early voters were arriving in their ones and twos. But one voter emerging from casting his vote just after 8.00am, wondered why the Council did not suspend parking charges near the Town hall to encourage more voters to turn up.
We already know that the Conservative candidate has one vote. She tweeted a photo of her completed postal ballot form – despite warnings not to show your vote to anyone else. ‘The rest’ of the constituency votes will be counted tonight at Devizes Leisure Centre and result should be known around 4.00am.
