Mayor Councillor Mervyn Hall dropped in to the Jubilee Centre earlier this week (Wednesday 27 September) to present a cheque for £500 to Alzheimers Support.
Sarah Marriott and Pam Marshall from Alzheimers Support, along with Kadi Campbell from the Marlborough & District Alzheimer’s Alliance received the cheque, proceeds of which will go towards funding Thursday’s weekly drop-in sessions run by the charity at the Jubilee Centre in Marlborough High Street. The grant was awarded by the Town Council’s Finance and Policy Committee, one of a number of ventures supported by the Council every year.
Alzheimers Support is a Wiltshire-based charity setting out to provide practical help and guidance for people across the county living with dementia in their own homes, helping them to maintain as much independence and control over their lives as possible.
The drop-in sessions are held between 2and 4pm every Thursday at the Jubilee Centre in the High Street. They aren’t just for sufferers of dementia themselves, they are there for relatives or friends of people who either have for may have dementia or may be beginning to show the early signs of developing the condition.
Mayor Mervyn, along with a number of other Councillors from the Town Council are trained as Dementia Friends, and Alzheimer’s Support are looking to provide support and training for anyone intereted in becoming a dementia friend. Alzheimer’s Support can be contacted here.
