In a unanimous vote at the meeting of Marlborough’s Town Council, Monday January 18, Cllr Mark Cooper was re-elected to serve as Marlborough’s Mayor for 2021-22. Cllr Andy Wilson was re-elected as Deputy Mayor. The appointments are, of course, subject to both councillors being re-elected in the May elections.
Cllr Fogg commented that Cllr Mark Cooper had had “a uniquely difficult year and had done tremendously well and maintained the status of Mayor. It is only right that he should carry on and do a proper year.”
Accepting the appointment Cllr Mark Cooper said, “Being Mayor is the greatest honour and privilege of my life and I feel very humbled that councillors will allow me to continue in the post, providing of course that I’m elected for Marlborough West in May. Thank you to the Deputy Mayor and to the council for their support.”
Proposing Cllr Andy Wilson as Deputy Mayor, Cllr Hall said, “Perhaps you may both have some ceremonial duties to perform.” There have been none this year!
Cllr Andy Wilson thanked everyone for their support and said, “Let’s hope there will be a bit more normality and I hope we can move forward.”
