The planning application by Aster to build two one-bedroom flats in a gap between houses in Baylie Acre, Marlborough has been refused by Wiltshire Council.
As Marlborough News Online reported in June, the application produced strong disapproval and objection when it was considered by Marlborough Town Council ‘s Planning Committee.
Wiltshire Council’s notice of refusal pointed out that the gap had been “purposefully left undeveloped to provide a visual break in the built environment and to facilitate pedestrian movement within the estate.”
And it was said that the proposed buildings would be “extremely detrimental to the character and quality of the area….”
Planning officials ruled against the development using both the Wiltshire Core Strategy and the government’s National Planning Policy Framework which requires “good design.”
